Why does Religion pretend to have all the answers to both Life and Afterlife?

i could cut them some slack IF they only professed to "know" something about the Afterlife. then we could write them off as irrelevant. But they try to interfere with how people live Life, based on no evidence whatsoever, and thats quite troublesome to me. You?
