For a Geology student, which is the best equipment for field trips?

I need to buy a pocket knife, and a geological hand lens, and I would love some feedback as to which brands and models are the way to go. Also, considering that for field trips I will be lugging around my Estwing rock hammer, comp, camera, etc etc, is there a belt that you can recommend to make life easier? Or will I just end up looking like a big dork? Thanks for your help!!
